Red Letter Media (also spelled RedLetterMedia ) is an American video production company that produces various web series that deal with film criticism in unconventional formats. Films from the genres of science fiction , fantasy and horror are the main themes , with both blockbusters and low-budget productions being treated.

Red Letter Media was founded in Scottsdale in 2004 by Mike Stoklasa and later relocated to Wisconsin . The company gained attention with reviews of Star Trek and Star Wars films that were published on YouTube in 2008 and that were embedded in a satirical framework. As a neglected pensioner Harry S. Plinkett, Stoklasa analyzes the newer sequels of the above-mentioned film series, which he considers to be of poor quality, and works out structural reasons for the inferior quality of these productions. Further reviews from this series are published at irregular intervals.

Since 2011, Red Letter Media has been producing the web series Half in the Bag , in which film reviews are presented in dialogue between actors Mike Stoklasa and Jay Bauman. The framework story develops around the employees of a video recorder repair company, embodied by the actors, who delay the repair of the VHS recorder of the senile Mr. Plinkett (Rich Evans) for years.

Since 2013, the Best of the Worst web series has featured low-budget films and rated them with regard to their (usually involuntary) entertainment value. A framework plot is dispensed with in favor of a detailed presentation of the films. In addition to participants from Red Letter Media, the panel often consists of guests. For example, the low-budget filmmaker Len Kabasinski , the film director Max Landis , the comedian Patton Oswalt and the actor Macaulay Culkin were guests.

In addition to a number of similarly structured web series with different focuses (e.g. Re: View ), the company has released several low-budget feature films, including Feeding Frenzy (2010) and Space Cop (2016).

Red Letter Media is a limited liability company and is based in Oak Creek, Wisconsin .
