Red Oak is a city in Ellis County in the US state of Texas in the United States .

The city is located in the north-east of Texas on Interstate 35 , around 32 km south of Dallas in the north of the county and has a total area of 20.3 km² without any significant water surface.
Demographic data
According to the 2000 census, 4,301 people lived here in 1,570 households and 1,238 families. The population density was 212.4 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 85.98% White, 5.42% African American, 0.53% Native American, 0.88% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, and 4.65% other ethnic groups. About 2.53% were mixed race and 11.69% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 1,570 households, 43.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 58.5% of these were married couples living together. 16.6% were single mothers and 21.1% were non-families. 19.0% of all households were single households and 6.2% had people living there who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.74 and the average family size was 3.10 people.
30.6% of the population were under 18 years old, 8.2% 18 to 24, 31.4% 25 to 44, 22.6% 45 to 64, and 7.3% who were 65 years of age or older . The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females of all age groups, there were 89.9 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 87.2 men.
The median income for a household in the city is $ 48,583 , and the median income for a family is $ 61,250. Males had a median income of $ 38,227 versus $ 26,276 for females.
