Red Rock Canyon
The Red Rock Canyon is located about 27 km west of Las Vegas in the Spring Mountains in the middle of the high desert Nevada ( USA ). It owes its name to the paleozoic kaibab limestone , the colorful, Triassic Moenkopi , Shinarump and Chinle formations , and the petrified dunes of the red, white and yellow Aztec sandstone of the Middle Jurassic . It emerged from a 400 million year old sea bed. In 1990 the entire area was declared a Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area .
By about 330 square kilometers of Red Rock Canyon a 21-kilometer toll leads Panorama Road (Scenic Loop Drive) which is passable only a one-way and are on the several picnic areas and viewpoints. The Red Rock Canyon is another popular day trip destination for visitors to Las Vegas, along with the Hoover Dam (in the southeast of Las Vegas) and the Valley of Fire (in the northeast of Las Vegas), which can be reached from Highway 159 via the North Strip in around 30 minutes Travel time is attainable.

For the film Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas , several of the desert scenes were filmed in Red Rock Canyon, for example the scene with the highway policeman at one of the parking lots on Scenic Loop Drive.
