Eco-friendly ski mountaineering

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Environmentally friendly ski mountaineering is a project of the German Alpine Club (DAV) and the Bavarian State Office for the Environment (LfU) . The project area is the Bavarian Alpine region , as well as the immediately adjacent areas in the Tyrolean part of the Karwendel and the Schwarzwassertal in Vorarlberg .

The project initiators are committed to measures to ensure the natural compatibility of ski touring and snowshoeing . As part of the project, therefore, forest and game sanctuaries are designated that are not to be entered on a voluntary basis in winter. A two-year probation period was agreed from the outset for a forest and game sanctuary in the small Walsertal - in the event of non-compliance, it should be converted into an area with no entry. In addition to forest and game sanctuaries, other control measures are carried out, such as directing ski tourers in the area through signs, lane setting by local ski mountaineers through unsensitive terrain in order to bypass sensitive terrain or creating natural obstacles when entering sensitive terrain. For this purpose, excursions are carried out on site in order to assess the situation and to be able to decide on a measure in later working groups.

The project was launched in 1994 with the establishment of the environmentally friendly ski mountaineering project group . In 2011, the recording of Bavaria and the definition of the last restrictions in the Allgäu ended with the southern Upper Allgäu. The DAV-internal working groups then observe the situation and improve it if necessary. The results of the environmentally friendly ski mountaineering project are also included in the new edition of the Alpine Club maps for the Bavarian Alpine region. According to the DAV, nature-friendly ski routes and protected forest and game areas are marked there.

controversy

Local mountaineers accused the project of lacking public relations and transparency. Many of the areas hardly affect winter sports enthusiasts. Overall, the results of the process are also supported by IG Climbing , which provided critical support to the process.
