Editorial contribution

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An editorial article or contribution is a journalist's own achievement . This is in contrast to a ready-made text, for example a press release .

species

The journalistic form of presentation is characteristic of the editorial contribution . This can be, for example, a report or an interview . In business journalism there is also a company portrait or an article on current developments in an industry.

Information-oriented articles present a topic neutrally and in different facets. Opinion-oriented articles such as comments or glosses contain arguments, background knowledge, explanations and opinions. The editorial article is therefore not promotional or one-sided. The German press council defines editorial contributions as follows:

“The media have a responsibility to the public that editorial publications are not influenced by private or business interests of third parties or by the personal economic interests of journalists. Publishers and editors defend themselves against such attempts and pay attention to a clear separation between editorial text and publications for advertising purposes. In the case of publications that concern a self-interest of the publisher, this must be recognizable. "

Separation of editorial content and advertising

Editorial reports must not contain surreptitious advertising and cannot be purchased. Paid publications must be marked as such. This is regulated in the respective state press laws. If so - as it often happens in practice, for example with advertorials - these contributions must be labeled with designations such as advertising or paid advertisement. The media are careful not to lose their credibility as a source of information and therefore handle PR articles and promotional information carefully. Editorial contributions are funded through advertisements. Editorial special publications, for example topic specials, are subject to the same editorial responsibility as all editorial publications.
