The Reference Peak is 1030 m high, roughly conical mountain in the East Antarctic Enderbyland . It is striking because of its western flank, which is steep near the summit. It rises 5 km south of Amundsen Bay between Mount Weller and Mount Hollingsworth . Seen from the north, it presents itself as a pointed summit with smooth sides.
The mountain was first sighted in October 1956 by a team from the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions . They named it so because it served as a reference mark for geomagnetic measurements on Observation Island .
