The Reformed Church of San Bastian in Zernez in the Swiss Lower Engadine is a Grade II listed Evangelical - Reformed church . It is located right next to the also reformed village church , which is much larger and thus also the main preaching church of the place.

History and equipment

The founding date under the patronage of St. Sebastian (in Vallader «Bastian») is in the dark. The choir, covered by a star vault , with late Gothic wall paintings by a master who may have come from Tyrol , and the ribbed vault of the nave were built in the pre-Reformation period in 1490.

After the devastation of the Graubünden turmoil , the church was decommissioned for sacred use in 1643. It was not until 1949-52 that the building was restored and then used again for worship services.

In June 2012 the Graubünden Synod celebrated its 475th anniversary in Zernez. San Bastian was the place of public synodal negotiations.
