Central European Computer Science Olympiad

The Central European computer science Olympiad (English: Central European Olympiad in Informatics - CEOI ) is an annual International Science Olympiad for students, especially upper secondary school or comparable educational backgrounds in other countries. Each of the participating Central European countries (as well as one or two host countries and a local team of the host) sends a team of up to four students, a team leader and a deputy team leader. The competitors compete individually against each other, i. H. a team result is, at least officially, not calculated. The participants are selected on the basis of national IT competitions.

In the competition, programming tasks of an algorithmic nature are solved over two days. The sequence of these competition days and the type of tasks are described in the article International Computer Science Olympiad (IOI). This competition actually formed the model for the invention of the more local CEOI.

The first CEOI took place in Romania (founder of the CEOI) in 1994, five years after the first IOI.

Germany has been participating regularly since 1997. Austria (2001, 2002, 2017 and 2018) has participated four times so far. Switzerland has been participating since 2009 (except 2013).
