The Reformed Church in Tschiertschen in Chur in the canton of Grisons is a Grade II listed Evangelical - Reformed church .

History and equipment

The mother church of the left side of the valley of the Schanfigg and thus also Tschiertschen was the Georgskirche in Castiel . In 1405 Tschiertschen received its own chapel under the patronage of Jakobus and Christophorus . The structure of the former church can still be found in today's masonry.

In 1438 a contract was signed with the neighboring municipality of Praden , which granted the Pradners cemetery rights in Tschiertschen and at the same time obliged them to participate financially in the renovation of the common church. The exact distribution key of the loads became a permanent bone of contention for both villages.

In 1472 both villages requested the Chur bishop to be granted a chaplain and their own parish rights. The request was granted in principle, but for decades Tschiertschen and Praden remained without a clergy and without a formal elevation to their own parish.

The Reformation was accepted before 1550. According to tradition, the change of denomination, although already decided, only took place after the death of the popular old priest. The proceeds from the sale of the now obsolete altar and the images of saints and statues went to Tschiertschen in full and probably in breach of contract and were the main reason for Praden's separation as a separate parish at that time.

Church organization

Today Tschiertschen has merged with Praden and Passugg - Araschgen to form the Steinbach parish and is also part of a pastoral community with Maladers . Tschiertschen belongs to the Colloquium VI Schanfigg-Churwalden within the Evangelical Reformed Church of Graubünden .

The church is a stage on the Graubünden Way of St. James .
