CEMETERY
OF THE REFORMED
AND LUTHERANS
1587-1825

GIFT
FROM WIFE AGNES LAUTENBACH

In 1587 Mechtild Portz, wife of the pewter founder Bernhard Lauterbach, bequeathed the Reformed community “half a morning, located on the rur ” in today's Paradiesstrasse. The establishment of a separate cemetery had become necessary because the Reformed were forbidden to bury their dead in the general cemetery. In 1627 the cemetery was expanded and was now allowed to be used by the Lutheran congregation. This cemetery was buried until 1825. Afterwards, the burials took place in the cemetery still in use today on Kölnstrasse. In 1884 five tombstones from this cemetery were attached to the morgue of the new Protestant cemetery . During the Second World War , the morgue and with it the tombstones were destroyed. In 1976 eight tombstones were transferred to the Christ Church and walled in next to the organ. Four more records followed in 2003.

On November 18, 1904, the Evangelical Church in Düren left the cemetery to the city of Düren, which has to maintain the cemetery on a permanent basis from this point on. This obligation was later transferred to the Düren service company .

The cemetery is entered under No. 1/64 in the list of monuments of the city of Düren.
