Christ Church

The Christ Church is a Protestant church in Düren , North Rhine-Westphalia , and is a listed building .

It was rebuilt after the Second World War on the spot where the Church of the Resurrection, which had been destroyed in the air raid on November 16, 1944 , was located on Schenkelstrasse

On the basis of an architectural competition held on January 30, 1952 , the authors of the winning design, Helmut Hentrich and Hubert Petschnigg in Düsseldorf, were commissioned with the execution. The church interior was built in a clear, blunt cross shape. The sacrament table came to the point of intersection and thus to the center of the congregation. The floor was lowered gradually towards the center. The four bells were cast by the Rincker bell and art foundry in Sinn (Hesse) , which had also made the bells of the previous church. The new bells are on the notes d ', f', g 'and b'.

The foundation stone was laid on April 26, 1953. Almost a year later, on April 4, 1954, it was inaugurated. At that time it had the highest free-standing church tower in Germany.

The Christ Church is entered in the list of monuments of the city of Düren under no. 1/111.
