The Distelrath Chapel (Rhineland Ühledömche , "Eulendömchen", small cathedral with (formerly nesting) owls ) in Distelrath is the oldest preserved church building in Düren. Today the kestrels nest in the tower .

The Church has the patronage of the Apostles Simon and Jude Thaddeus .

General

The oldest part is proven to be the church tower , which was built as a defensive tower (possibly the attested hereditary forest yard) before the 11th century.

The chapel was always a branch church of the town church of St. Martin, later St. Anna, and today belongs to St. Bonifatius in Düren-Ost. In 1873 the old nave was demolished because it was dilapidated and rebuilt in its current condition. The tower still remained. It was not until 110 years later, on April 23, 1983, that the restored chapel was consecrated. In March 2013, a support association for the maintenance of the church was founded.
