Birgel Chapel

The Birgel chapel is located in the Birgel district of Düren in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The old Catholic chapel in today's Bergstrasse was the former castle chapel . The simple hall building was built from rubble stones and has a slated roof turret . Four axes can be seen on the eaves. The arched windows have stone - jamb .

The building is entered under No. 4/004 in the list of monuments of the city of Düren.

history

The chapel was built in the 17th century on top of an older building. It was restored and expanded between 1818 and 1826. The building was damaged by a lightning strike in 1859.

The community of Birgel tried since 1861 to obtain state approval for the chapel, which was finally achieved in 1867. In 1875 the chapel was granted property self-administration.
