The Maria Rast chapel , also called Maria Rast in den Benden, is a Roman Catholic path chapel near the Düren district of Arnoldsweiler in the Düren district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The church belongs to the parish of St. Arnold Arnoldsweiler. Today this forms the community of communities (GdG) St. Franziskus Düren-Nord with several neighboring communities .

location

The chapel is located east of Arnoldsweiler between Arnoldsweiler and Haus Rath in the middle of the field in the Kirchenbenden. The Hansgraben flows past directly behind the chapel on the west side.

history

The small chapel emerged from a shrine of Mary that was erected in July 1959 on the initiative of the then Arnoldsweiler pastor Johannes Dautzenberg.

A year later, pensioners from Arnoldsweiler took the initiative to build a small chapel around the wayside shrine. The chapel was built in the first half of 1960 on their own initiative by volunteer parishioners from Arnoldsweiler.

The chapel was inaugurated on June 28, 1960 by Rev. Johannes Dautzenberg and Father Springob. At the same time, the first Holy Mass was read in the chapel. The result was a simple chapel with a flat three-sided choir closure in the west, a large glass facade with a door in the east and rectangular windows filled with glass blocks .

The chapel was renovated in 2017. The forecourt was redesigned and the inside and outside of the chapel was given a new coat of paint.

Furnishing

In the interior there is a wooden figure of Our Lady with Child Jesus from the 1950s. In front of it is a simple granite altar . The floor consists partly of panels that were installed in the parish church until 1959 and then replaced there.

Others

Every year in May there is a procession from the parish church of Groß St. Arnold to the chapel, where mass is then celebrated.
