The Refuge du Promontoire is a refuge of the Isère section of the Club Alpin Français , in France in the Pelvoux , it is enthroned on the spur of the Promontoire south face of La Meije . This is the usual starting point for the famous Meije crossing, which is considered to be one of the most beautiful mountain trails in the Alps. Its access is made either from La Bérarde through the Étançons Valley, or from La Grave through the Enfetchores and the Gap des Meije. A first wooden house from the 1920s was destroyed and replaced by a new aluminum structure in 1966.
