The Refugio Poqueira is next to the Refugio Postero Alto the only managed mountain hut in the Spanish Sierra Nevada and is located at an altitude of 2500 m on the southern flank of the highest mountain on the Iberian Peninsula, the 3479 m high Pico Mulhacén .
Approach
The refuge can be reached on foot in three to four hours from Capileira or Trevélez on hiking trails.
While in summer it is a technically relatively easy, albeit physically demanding, hike, from November to May the use of crampons , snowshoes or skis can be useful to get to the hut.
Furnishing
The Refugio Poqueira has 87 beds and is managed all year round. There is a washroom and toilet room with running cold (on request also warm) water. The kitchen is managed continuously and a self-catering kitchen is also available. Early reservations are recommended on weekends and during periods of good weather.
