Reg Spiers

Reg Spiers (actually Reginald James Spiers; born December 14, 1941 ) is a former Australian javelin thrower .

At the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Perth in 1962 , he was fifth.

In 1967 and 1977 he was Australian champion. He set his personal best of 78.12 m on December 14, 1963 in Adelaide .

In 1964, after trying unsuccessfully to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics in England and having his money stolen, he was sent from London to Perth in an air box. In 1984 he was sentenced to death in Sri Lanka for drug smuggling and after an appeal he was extradited to Australia, where he served a five-year prison term.
