Government of Andrij Brodij

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The government of Andrij Brodij , led by Prime Minister Andrij Brodij ( Ukrainian Андрій Бродій , Czech Andrej Bródy ), was the first government of Carpathian Ukraine , the autonomous state of Czecho-Slovakia 1938-1939. She was in office from October 11, 1938 to October 26, 1938. It was replaced by the Avgustyn Voloshyn I government.

Government formation

After the occupation of the Sudetenland as a result of the Munich Agreement , Czechoslovakia was partially federalized - the parts of the country that became autonomous (Slovakia and Carpathian Ukraine) each received their own government and the state name was changed to " Czecho-Slovakia ". In the only three meetings of the cabinet, primarily internal problems, the responsibilities of the ministries and the fight against Polish and Hungarian armed groups were addressed.

Brodij's government was installed by the Czech-Slovak central government in Prague, but soon afterwards dissolved as pro-Hungarian, Brodij himself was arrested and later convicted. After the intercession of German diplomatic circles in Prague, it was replaced by the first Voloshyn government.

Government composition

The ministers (and members of the government) were in office throughout the regular term of office (from October 11, 1938 to October 26, 1938) unless otherwise stated.

Remarks

  1. The legally enshrined autonomy of Slovakia (Law 299/1938, text online ) and the Carpathian Ukraine (Law 328/1938, text online ) established two autonomous governments for these two parts of the country; the so-called "Czech Lands" (part of the country consisting of Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia) did not receive their own government and were administered by the Czech-Slovak central government in Prague, which also took on some tasks for the entire state (such as foreign policy, defense, etc.).
  2. The composition of the four governments of the autonomous Carpathian Ukraine and the only government of the independent Ukraine in 1938/1939 can only be read with reservations. The documents, especially about the last short-lived governments, are very imprecise and sometimes contradict each other considerably. For safety reasons, appropriate instructions are given by the individual governments using alternative sources. Both Ukrainian and Czech sources were used, as the autonomous Carpathian Ukraine was de facto part of Czecho-Slovakia and its governments were also subordinate to the central government in Prague. The fact that in many cases the individual ministers did not determine all areas of competence from the beginning and not all areas of competence are mentioned in the documents also makes things more difficult.
