Regina Claas

Regina Claas (born June 24, 1955 in Düsseldorf ) is a Baptist pastor and has been Vice President of the Baptist World Federation since 2010 . From 2003 to 2013 she was General Secretary of the Federation of Evangelical Free Churches in Germany .

Life

Regina Claas comes from a Baptist pastor family. Her father Gerhard Claas († 1988) was u. a. General Secretary of the Baptist World Federation .

After finishing school, Regina Claas studied medicine in Frankfurt am Main from 1975 to 1980 and then attended the Ostfriesland University of Applied Sciences , which she completed in 1983 in the field of social education / social work . Her professional recognition year took her to Falls Church ( Virginia ) / USA , where she worked at the Vienna Family Therapy Institute . From 1984 to 1986 she worked in the hospital social service of the Evangelical Free Church Albertinen Hospital in Hamburg-Schnelsen . In 1986 she switched to the Hamburg-Horner youth seminar of the Evangelical-Free Church Community Youth Service , where she mainly worked as a pedagogical consultant in the training and further education of voluntary youth workers. Further stays abroad followed in 1991. Until 1994 she worked as an Associate Youth Director in the youth department of the Baptist World Alliance (BWA) in McLean (Virginia / USA). She then worked as a missionary on behalf of the European Baptist Mission and in collaboration with the Baptist Convention of South Africa in Johannesburg (South Africa) .

During her stay in South Africa, Regina Claas began what is known as contact studies at the Theological Seminary in Wustermark -Elstal, which she completed in 2003. After a three-year vicariate , some of which she completed in Johannesburg, she received her official recognition as a pastor in 2004.

From 2003 to 2013, Regina Claas headed the administration of the Evangelical Free Church Association as Secretary General. The federal government has its seat in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe , but the federal management works in Wustermark-Elstal.

Claas is also involved in various international church bodies. These include the executive committee of the BWA (since 2005), the BWA study commission Freedom and Justice (as chairman since 2005) and the jury of the BWA Prize for Human Rights (since 2000). From 1992 to 1999 she was also a member of the BWA special commission Baptists against Racism . In July 2010, she was elected to the office of vice president during the World Baptist Federation Congress in Hawaii .

Regina Claas is single and childless.
