The Regio , until 2004 regional train ( French train régional , Italian treno regional ), is a type of train used in regional transport in Switzerland .

history

Regios usually stop at all stops and operate where lines are not served by S-Bahn trains. Therefore, apart from the place of use, there is no uniform, clearly defined separation between Regios and S-Bahn. With a similar operating grid as the S-Bahn trains, they usually run less frequently, usually every hour.

On departure boards or train destination indicators , the region is shown with a black R on a white background (Regio), similar to the S-Bahn. The abbreviation Regio, which can be used in all national languages, was introduced when the timetable was changed in 2004; before that, the term regional train was used . In the course book , the letter appears R not in the Zugspalte only the train number is printed.

Rolling stock

At SBB, Regios usually run as shuttle trains or multiple units. In the early 2000s, the Regios were mainly operated with railcars of the type RBe 540 or RBDe 560 together with renovated EW I and EW II and control cars that matched the railcar . While the use of the RBe 540 and EW I and EW II without externally flush doors ended in 2014, the RBDe 560s will be used after modernization with low-floor intermediate cars of the type NPZ Domino , plus newer multiple units such as the Stadler Flirt .
