history

The South China Regional Army was set up on February 9, 1940 under the command of General Andō Rikichi in Canton and was subordinate to the China Expeditionary Army . The main task of this army was to provide the garrison for the Japanese conquered Chinese provinces of Guangdong and Guangxi .

On September 5, 1940, parts of the South China Regional Army occupied the north of the colonial overseas territory administered by the Vichy government during the Japanese invasion of French Indochina in order to cut off the supply routes of the national Chinese on the border with French Indochina . The agreement between the Japanese Empire and the Vichy government provided that Japan was allowed to station 6,000 soldiers in the country. However, this agreement was undermined by General Ando, who had parts of the 5th Division invade French Indochina from Guangdong . Andō was then relieved of his post on October 5, 1940, Lieutenant General Ushiroku Jun took up.

The South China Regional Army was disbanded on June 16, 1941 and most of its troops were reassigned to the China Expeditionary Army.
