Brenne Regional Nature Park

The Regional Natural Park of Brenne ( French Parc naturel régional de la Brenne ) extends French department of Indre in the Region Center-Val de Loire .
The nature park , founded in 1989, covers an area of 167,000 hectares . 46 communities with a catchment area of 31,000 residents make up the park.
As its name suggests, the park is located in the Brenne countryside , part of the historic Touraine province . In the Middle Ages , the Brenne was a barren, swampy zone in the border area with the province of Berry . The monks who worked the land at that time channeled the water resources in the 12th century and created long chains of ponds and lakes. This landscape has largely been preserved to this day and forms the basis for the nature park.
It is best known to nature lovers for its wetlands and the wide variety of water birds that are attracted to them. It brings together very different territories and includes numerous villages and small towns that are arranged around the city of Le Blanc . The park administration is based in the municipality of Rosnay in Bouchet ( 46 ° 43 ′ 15 ″ N , 1 ° 10 ′ 25 ″ E, ).
