Regius Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology (Glasgow)

The Regius Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology is a Regius Professorship in Gynecology , Obstetrics and Reproductive Medicine at the University of Glasgow . It was in 1815 by Foundation of King George III. established as Regius Chair of Midwifery for the specialist areas obstetrics and paediatrics . The name change took place in 1992 after Charles Whitfield retired from office.

Another Regius Professorship for Reproductive Medicine has existed at the University of Aberdeen since 1858 , also known today as the Regius Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology . As with the chair in Glasgow, it was previously referred to as the Regius Professor of Midwifery.

History of the chair

A professor at the Waltonian Foundation taught the subject from 1790 to 1815.

Ian Donald Esq., MBE, MD, BS, BA, MRCS, LRCP, MRCOG 1954 Sep 30 1976 Donald came from the University of London, where he had taught reproductive medicine. Donald was the first to introduce ultrasound technology to visualize the fetus and identify organic masses in the lower abdomen. His discovery revolutionized reproductive medicine.
