Since the construction of the Geestemünde train station in 1862, the oldest post office in Geestemünde has been on Bahnhofstrasse (today: Klußmannstrasse). Geestemünde grew rapidly at the end of the 19th century and with it the postal service, so that an independent new building became necessary in 1892.

In addition to the Geestemünder Rathaus, which was completed in 1894 and which has not been preserved, the new, representative Imperial Post Office with the telegraph operator was built on what was then Bahnhofsallee by April 15, 1899 for 40 officials . In 1898 there were 119 telephone connections in Geestemünde. The Reichspost built until 1902 also provides space for employees of the wagon owner Geswein, the posting station operational. By the First World War , the post office had grown to 100 civil servants.

The design for the two-storey, red-stone-faced building with its richly decorated gable from the historicist era was commissioned by the Bremen Post Office from the Post Office Building Councilor Schäffer. The architect Zöllner was responsible for the execution.

In 1914, after the construction of the new Geestemünde-Bremerhaven main station on today's Friedrich-Ebert-Straße , the Reichspost also erected a small building there as a so-called transit packing chamber , since the railways and post offices had to work closely together at the time.

The annex building was extended in 1925. The garage facilities were added in 1939.

In 1933 the new Reich Post Office Geestemünde was opened right next to the new main train station. The old building was bought by the city of Wesermünde and , in addition to the town hall, it was used as a service building by the administration of the treasury, the tax office, the tax administration and the city police.

Today the Geestemünde police station and the south police station are still located here.
