Reima Pietila
Reima Pietilä (born August 25, 1923 in Turku , † August 26, 1993 in Helsinki ) was a Finnish architect .
Life
Reima Pietilä was married to Raili Pietilä , who also worked as an architect . Together they won the architecture competition for the Savikimpu settlement near Tapiola in 1962 . The construction of the settlement lasted until 1982. In 1966 the Dipoli was built , the student body of the Helsinki University of Technology and the Kaleva Church in Tampere . In 1993 the final building was the residence of the Finnish President, Mäntyniemi .
His works are often characterized by the inclusion of the natural soil conditions in the design of the building. He often used concrete as a material, which offered him extensive design options.
In 1982 he was awarded the Finnish honorary title of academic . In 1987 he received the gold medal of the Union Internationale des Architectes .
Reima Pietilä's sister was the graphic artist Tuulikki Pietilä .
