Gustav Reimar Konstantin von Alvensleben (born July 14, 1940 in Schlochau ) is a German professor of agricultural sciences .

Life

Reimar von Alvensleben comes from the Low German noble family von Alvensleben . After graduating from high school and doing an agricultural apprenticeship, Reimar von Alvensleben studied agriculture at the University of Göttingen . In 1964 he received the academic title of a qualified farmer at the University of Bonn . After working as an assistant, he received his doctorate in 1967 with a dissertation on the subject of current and future optimal company organizations in the Niederrhein-Niederung . In 1971 he obtained his habilitation. The following year Reimar von Alvensleben became professor for processing and sales at the Institute for Agricultural Economics at the University of Göttingen. A little later he went to the University of Bonn, where he took over the field of business administration in the food industry. In 1977 he was offered the chair for market studies at the Institute for Horticultural Economics at the University of Hanover and in 1989 took over the chair for agricultural marketing at the University of Kiel , which he held until his retirement in 2003.

In addition to his work at various universities, Reimar von Alvensleben was chairman of the Economic Commission of the International Society of Horticultural Sciences (1982–1990), expert appraiser for the German Research Foundation (1988–1996), chairman of the Faculty Day for Agricultural Sciences and Ecotrophology (1987–1989), member of the scientific advisory board to the Federal Minister for Food, Agriculture and Forests (1986-2001), board member of the Research Society for Agricultural Policy and Agricultural Sociology eV in Bonn (1993-2003) and member of the board of trustees of the Federal Research Institute for Agriculture in Braunschweig-Völkenrode (1993-2003), from 2001 to 2003 also its chairman.

He is a member of the Corps Borussia Bonn .

He has been retired since October 1, 2003 and lives with his family in Falkenberg near Fürstenwalde / Spree, where his son Albrecht von Alvensleben has re-established and run the family's agricultural and forestry business, which was expropriated in 1945. Reimar von Alvensleben is the seventh child of District Administrator Udo von Alvensleben (1895–1970) and Gunild von Oertzen (1904–1997). He was married to Ingeborg Freiin von Maltzahn († April 19, 2006) and has three children with her.
