Reinald II. Mansoer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Reinald II. Mansoer von Margat (Reinhold Mazoir; Renaud Masoier; † around 1185) was lord of Margat (Marqab) and constable of Antioch .

He is the son and successor of Reinald I. Mansoer von Margat . In 1116 his father had received the Margat Castle as a fief of the Prince of Antioch. During the rebellion of the Pons of Tripoli and others in 1131 against the new ruler of Antioch, Fulk of Anjou , his father sided with Fulkos. In the context of the peace treaty in 1131 Reinald II was married to Pons' daughter Agnes of Tripoli (* after 1112).

In 1133 his father lost Margat Castle to the Muslims. His father probably died in the following years and Reinald inherited the office of Constable of Antioch. In any case, in 1140, when Margat was recaptured by the Christians, Reinald II took possession of them.

Although Reinald II had large estates and several sub-vassals, the costs of maintaining Margat Castle and its occupation exceeded his financial means. He had to sell his property piece by piece to the Johanniter and Templer . After his death in 1185, his son Bertrand finally sold the castle to the Johanniter on February 1, 1186 in return for an annual pension of 2,000 gold Byzantines .

With his wife Agnes he had four sons:

  • Thomas († before 1165)
  • Amalrich († before 1178)
  • Mansur († before 1178)
  • Bertrand († after 1217)
