Reiner Lemoine (born February 2, 1949 in Berlin ; † December 6, 2006 ) was a German entrepreneur in the field of renewable energies .

life and work

Lemoine studied aerospace engineering at the TU Berlin and received his diploma in 1979. While still studying, he was involved in the founding of Wuseltronik, an engineering collective based initially in Berlin-Moabit, later in Berlin-Kreuzberg in the Mehringhof . This company developed competencies in the field of measurement and control technology for renewable energies. The company Kosonanz, which later took over the wind measurement division from Wuseltronik and continues to exist under the name Ammonit Measurement GmbH, was established in the Wuseltronik environment. There was also close cooperation with Robert Gasch's institute at the Technical University of Berlin, from which the Südwind Windkraftanlagen company was spun off. One of the first projects in 1999 was a wind turbine that, together with a diesel generator, supplied a forest workers' settlement in Cuba .

In 1996 he and other partners founded Solon AG , which went public in 1998. In 1999 the solar cell manufacturer Q-Cells followed . In 2005 he and Anton Milner won the Entrepreneur of the Year award for Q-Cells .

Shortly before his death, he founded the Reiner Lemoine Foundation , which awards grants to doctoral students who want to do a doctorate in the field of regenerative energies. In December 2006 he succumbed to a long-diagnosed brain tumor.

On August 20, 2008, Federal Environment Minister Sigmar Gabriel inaugurated the Reiner Lemoine Research Center of Q-Cells AG.

In April 2010 the Reiner Lemoine Institute (RLI) founded by the Reiner Lemoine Foundation started its work. The non-profit RLI stands for implementation-oriented research on renewable energies.
