Reinhard Helbing

Reinhard Helbing SDB (born September 10, 1933 in Trier ; † January 11, 2013 in Siegburg ) was a German Salesian of Don Bosco and as such was Provincial of the North German Province from 1984 to 1990 .

Life

After the early loss of his parents, Helbing grew up in various orphanages until he finally went to the Progymnasium of the Salesians Don Bosco in Buxheim from 1948 . Helbing decided to become a Salesian himself, entered the novitiate in 1953 and made his first religious vows on August 15, 1954 . After he had continued his high school years from 1955 to 1957 at the municipal boys' high school in Essen-Borbeck and completed his school-leaving examination, he first studied philosophy in the Helenenberg branch and from 1959 to 1963 theology at the Benediktbeuern's own Philosophical-Theological College . After he had made his perpetual profession in the meantime, he was ordained priest on June 29, 1963 in Benediktbeuern by Auxiliary Bishop Josef Zimmermann from Augsburg . From 1964 to 1973 he studied Latin and geography for teaching at the University of Bonn and, after completing the first state examination in May 1973, initially taught as a trainee lawyer and after completing the second state examination in 1975 as a teacher at the Don-Bosco-Gymnasium Essen, which was founded in 1966 .

There he was also director of the branch from 1974 to 1978. From 1978 to 1984 he was Provincial Vicar and from 1984 to 1990 Provincial of the North German Province of the Salesians Don Bosco, based in Cologne-Mülheim. From 1990 to 1995 he held the office of novice master in Jünkerath . From 1995 to 2010 he was director of the order's branch in Neunkirchen- Seelscheid and at the same time director of the Antonius College there . Until 2001 he also taught at the school.
