Lorich was born around 1510, the son of Keller Johann Lorich, into an influential family of scholars and officials in the Hadamar region. In later years he mostly used the Latinized name Reinhardus Lorichius. His brothers Joseph Lorich and Gerhard Lorich also pursued a scholarly career , but remained Catholic. Reinhard Lorich's son, who later became a diplomat and lawyer, Georg Lorich , was born in 1533 .

Reinhard Lorich acquired the rank of Baccalaureus at the University of Cologne in 1520 , and in the following year moved to the University of Wittenberg , the center of the Reformation , where he probably converted to the Reformed Confession himself. In 1521 he is listed in Wittenberg as "Magister bonarium artium". To found the University of Marburg, he was appointed professor of poetry there in 1527 . Later he is also listed as a professor of eloquence at the university and from 1536 on several times as dean of the philosophical faculty. In 1539 he was rector and in 1540 vice rector of the University of Marburg. For 1532, the function as a teacher at the pedagogy in Marburg is also handed down.

The activity in Marburg extended until 1548. For 1541 teaching activities in Hadamar and for 1546 in Wetzlar are guaranteed. From 1548 Reinhard Lorche appeared as a pastor, the last tangible mention of him as a preacher in Bernbach in 1553 .

In the book Psychopharmakon, hoc est: medicina animae , dated 1548, the word psychopharmaceutical is used for the first time in a tangible way, albeit in the sense of a human encouragement. The volume is a consolation and death book from the Ars moriendi genus .
