Reinhard Mager (born May 2, 1953 in Zimmer ) is a former German soccer player . From 1976/77 to 1986/87 he played 138 Bundesliga games as a goalkeeper for VfL Bochum and Blau-Weiß 90 Berlin . From 1984 to 1989 he guarded the goal in 115 games in the 2nd Bundesliga at BW 90 Berlin .

career

Reinhard Mager, who was born in Swabia, began his career as a goalkeeper at SV Zimmer, before he was nominated for numerous nominations for the Württemberg association after moving to BSV Schwenningen. For the 1975/76 round he finally signed a contract with Bundesliga club VfL Bochum. Behind the established Werner Scholz, he only played sporadically in the first few years (1976/77: one BL game; 1977/78: three BL games). When Heinz Höher was replaced by Helmuth Johannsen as coach in Bochum for the 1979/80 round, Reinhard Mager's hour struck. He was number one at VfL for two rounds and was in goal for Bochum in all 68 league games. That changed again with the change of coach from Johannsen to Rolf Schafstall from the 1981/82 season. Now a new number one has settled in Ralf Zumdick and Mager was pushed back into the substitute goalkeeper role. That is why he accepted the offer of the promoted player to the 2nd Bundesliga, Blau-Weiß 90 Berlin, for round 1984/85 and moved to the Spree as number one.

Already in the second year in Berlin, 1985/86, under coach Bernd Hoss the direct promotion to the Bundesliga succeeded as runner-up. Mager guarded the goal in 32 games and was represented by Holger Gehrke in six games . However, Blau-Weiß 90 could not secure relegation in the first division in 1986/87, as the bottom of the table it went back to the second division. Mager had played 24 and Gehrke ten games. He stayed the next two rounds with the relegated Bundesliga and in 1988/89 was again the undisputed goalkeeper with 36 appearances at BW 90, which finished eighth.

For the round, Mager joined local rivals Hertha BSC and experienced promotion to the Bundesliga with the "old lady" in the summer of 1990. In 19 home games, coach Werner Fuchs' team laid the foundation for a return to the Bundesliga with 33: 5 points. Walter Junghans was in goal in all 38 league games, while Mager was a collegiate substitute goalkeeper. When Hertha was unable to keep up in 1990/91, and four coaches (Werner Fuchs, Pal Csernai, Peter Neururer, Karsten Heine) couldn't change anything, he remained without commitment because he was injured in an operation by Junghans, of all things young Marco Sejna therefore came to six Bundesliga games.

At this point in time, he had already founded a goalkeeping school in cooperation with the Berlin Football Association, which he continued after his active career ended in 1991.
