Marco Sejna (born March 20, 1972 in West Berlin ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper .
Career
Marco Sejna started playing football in the Hertha BSC F-youth team . As a D-youth he later moved to 1. FC Lübars before returning to the A-youth of Hertha. There he came as a 19-year-old at the end of the 1990/91 season after the injuries of Walter Junghans and Reinhard Mager to six appearances in the professional team. He played his first game on May 11 against Borussia Dortmund . This was followed, among other things, by a 3: 7 against FC Bayern Munich and a single win against Bayer 05 Uerdingen , to which he contributed with a saved penalty.
After four more years and 55 games in the second division, Sejna moved to the regional league for Tennis Borussia Berlin in 1995 , with whom he lost to VfB Oldenburg in 1996 in the relegation games for promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga .
In 1997 Sejna moved to league competitor FC Sachsen Leipzig and two years later to LR Ahlen . There he and the team were promoted to the second division in his first year, but in the spring of 2000 he lost his regular place to the newly signed Dirk Langerbein . In 2002, Sejna moved to the third division Rot-Weiss Essen for a year , but where he could not prevail and so joined Ahlen again in the coming season.
In 2004 Sejna returned to his hometown and signed a contract with 1. FC Union Berlin . After 19 regional league games and relegation to the league , he moved to SV Yeşilyurt Berlin , which he, however, left again in the winter break of 2005/06 in the direction of the Bavarian league club FC Ingolstadt 04 .
With his new team, Sejna rose immediately to the Regionalliga Süd as a regular goalkeeper, but then lost his regular place here and only made four appearances in the following three years. In 2008 he was also part of the squad that made it to the 2nd Bundesliga. In the second division he was still “number two” behind Michael Lutz and played two second division games in 2008/09. After Ingolstadt was directly relegated, Sejna was in goal 14 times in the third division for the FCI in 2009/10.
In the summer of 2010, the second division soccer team Hertha BSC signed Marco Sejna as the third goalkeeper. The 38-year-old has signed a one-year contract, the Berlin club announced. On October 16, 2010, due to the failure of the goalkeeper Maikel Aerts , he made his first game against FSV Frankfurt (1-0 win). In total, he came to seven season appearances.
In the 2012/13 season he played for SFC 1900 Stern and then ended his active career. He currently still plays in the traditional team of Hertha BSC and for the over 40s of SV Blau-Weiß Berlin , with whom he moved into the cup final on April 12, 2014.
Until 2016 he worked as a volunteer goalkeeper coach for BFC Dynamo in the Northeast Football League and since 2013 for the U19 of SFC Stern 1900 (Berlin League) and then as goalkeeper coach of the 1st team. With the promotion of the BFC to the Regionalliga 2014, he extended his engagement in the BFC coaching team together with Volkan Uluc and Martino Gatti . From 2015 to 2017 he was goalkeeping coach at SpVg.Blau-Weiß 90 Berlin and from 2016 to 2018 goalkeeping coach, as well as co-coach of FSV Union Fürstenwalde in the 2017/18 season . He has been the goalkeeping coach at Concordia Wittenau since 2016 and goalkeeping coach at FC Viktoria 1889 Berlin since 2018 .
