Reinhard Peck

Felix Georg Reinhard Peck (born February 3, 1823 in Görlitz ; † March 28, 1895 there ) was a pharmacist , curator of the then collection of the Natural Research Society of Upper Lusatia , librarian for the library of the Natural Research Society in Görlitz and director of the Natural History Museum in Görlitz .

Life

Reinhard Peck was born as the son of the municipal tax collector of Görlitz . He had seven siblings and his father died in 1834. He attended high school in Görlitz and completed an apprenticeship as a pharmacist in the Struve'schen pharmacy on Untermarkt in Görlitz . In 1848 he passed the state examination in Berlin and then worked in various places as a pharmacist until he returned to Görlitz in 1855. During his wandering years he began his scientific, especially botanical studies, which he completed as a member of the Natural Research Society in Görlitz and administered as curator from 1860.

From 1866 he took over the job of librarian for the library of the Natural Research Society in Görlitz. In 1873 he was made an honorary doctorate from the University of Wroclaw. Reinhard Peck was appointed its first director in 1885 on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the inauguration of the building of the Natural History Museum in Görlitz.

By Willi Xylander is the Senckenberg Museum of Natural History Görlitz a journal named Peckiana published as a monographic essay.
