Reinhard Remfort (born November 1, 1982 in Essen ) is a German physicist , science communicator , science slammer , podcaster and author.

Live and act

After graduating from the Bischöflichen Gymnasium am Stoppenberg in Essen in 2003, Remfort studied physics at the University of Duisburg-Essen until his diploma in 2012. He then worked as part of his doctorate at the University's Nano Energy Technology Center (NETZ) Duisburg-Essen in the area of diamond epitaxy . Since 2013 he has been a lecturer at the Haus der Technik in Essen .

Remfort has been successfully participating in Science Slam competitions since 2013 and in the same year became German champion in this area of ​​popular scientific knowledge transfer with his contribution "Dienliche Defekte" . Beyond the slams, he is on the road with popular science lectures throughout the German-speaking area and as an expert guest on various radio broadcasts.

Together with his colleague Nicolas Wöhrl , Reinhard Remfort has been running the podcast "Methodically incorrect!" Since May 8, 2013. This achieved around 70,000 downloads per episode in January 2017. The podcast regularly occupies top positions in the German iTunes podcast charts. In the two-week podcast, the two physicists present scientific publications and experiments, technical gadgets made in China ("China gadgets"), beers and music with mostly scientific relevance and tell of their experiences as scientists since the last episode.

From 2014 to 2017 Reinhard Remfort and Nicolas Wöhrl were guests of the Chaos Communication Congress with their physics shows . In 2016 they held the closing session there.

In addition to this activity, he was seen as a moderator in 2015 together with Bastian Bielendorfer for the ZDF magazine WISO. Remfort was also an expert in the documentary An Interview with Dr. Axel Stoll - To see the film .

In 2017 Remfort traveled through five different cities in Mexico for the Goethe-Institut Mexico as part of the pop-up tour of the Year of Germany and held science slams there. In the same year, his popular science book “Methodically correct beer drinking” was published by Ullstein Verlag and reached number 10 on the Spiegel bestseller list. From April 2017 to the end of January 2018, Reinhard Remfort was responsible for corporate communications at bevuta IT GmbH, Cologne.

On February 7, 2018, Remfort and his podcast colleague Nicolas Wöhrl had an appearance at the evening before the CAR symposium, a meeting of the automotive industry organized by Ferdinand Dudenhöffer .

Since August 2018 he has been publishing the podcast Alliteration am Arsch together with Bastian Bielendorfer .

On February 11, 2019, he gave his doctoral lecture to obtain the academic degree of Dr. rer. nat. with the title “Epitaxy of high-purity diamond layers” at the University of Duisburg-Essen. At the end of March he received his doctoral certificate.

Since September 2019 he has been working at the Mannheim University of Applied Sciences in the mechanical engineering department.

Trivia

At the end of the physics show at the 34th Chaos Communication Congress 2017, Remfort asked for his girlfriend's hand on stage. Until then, his girlfriend was known to the public only as "the ominous woman". The two married in July 2019.
