Reinhard Resch (* 1955 in Opponitz , Lower Austria ) is an Austrian doctor , politician ( SPÖ ) and has been mayor of the city of Krems an der Donau since 2012 .

Life

Reinhard Resch was born in Opponitz in the Amstetten district in Lower Austria in 1955 and grew up in Hollenstein an der Ybbs . He attended secondary school in Chiavari ( Italy ), the Stiftsgymnasium Seitenstetten and passed the Matura at the Stiftsgymnasium Melk . This was followed by a medical degree at the University of Vienna . He completed his training as a general practitioner and specialist in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the St. Pölten State Hospital and in the USA (including Mayo Clinic, Harvard).

After a position as a senior physician in the Social Medicine Center East - Donauspital Vienna, he became primary professor at the Krems State Hospital in 1992 . From 1995 to 2012 he was deputy medical director there. In 1995 he founded the CARDEA therapy center in the Steigenberger Avance Hotel Krems.

He married Erika Resch in 1985 and has three children.

politics

From 2002 he was local councilor of Krems, district chairman of the Association of Social Democratic Academics, Intellectuals, Artists , 2005 city council, 2008 city party chairman and from January 28, 2009 second deputy mayor. On October 7, 2012, Resch won the 2012 municipal council election in the city of Krems an der Donau just ahead of the then mayor Inge Rinke .

He ran again as the SPÖ's top candidate in the municipal council election on October 15, 2017, with the SPÖ gaining 46.09 percent of the vote.

criticism

Criticism was expressed in the 2017 local council election campaign. On an SPÖ advertising poster, Resch could be seen with Maximilian Fürnsinn, provost of the Herzogenburg Abbey . The title: "My way: Preach openness. And live." Fürnsinn then said that Resch had only asked him if he could use the photo. However, he would never have approved a SPÖ poster campaign with him.
