Reinhard W. Hoffmann

Reinhard W. Hoffmann (born July 18, 1933 in Würzburg ) is a German chemist and emeritus professor of chemistry.

Life

Reinhard W. Hoffmann was born in Würzburg in 1933 . He studied chemistry at the University of Bonn . In 1958 he received his doctorate there, his doctoral supervisor was Burckhardt Helferich . After two years as a postdoc at Pennsylvania State University with GW Brindley, he completed a second one-year postdoc with Georg Wittig at the University of Heidelberg . In 1964 he completed his habilitation and became a dietician at the Technical University of Darmstadt . In 1970 he then moved to a chair for organic chemistry at the University of Marburg . Hoffmann researched the development of new methods for the stereoselective linking of carbon-carbon bonds. Applications in natural product synthesis and stereoselective linkages of organometallic compounds were also part of his field of work. In 1993 he received the Liebig medal from the Society of German Chemists .
