Charles Wells Russell

Charles Wells Russell (born July 22, 1818 in Sistersville , Tyler County , Virginia (now West Virginia ), † November 22, 1867 ) was a lawyer and prominent Confederate politician during the American Civil War . He was a member of the Democratic Party .

Russell represented Virginia at the Democratic National Convention in 1860 . When Virginia broke away from the Union in 1861 , he was elected to the Provisional Confederate Congress and later to the 1st and 2nd Confederate Congresses .

He died in 1867 and was subsequently interred in Woodlawn Cemetery in Woodlawn, Maryland .
