Reinhart Noltz

Reinhart Noltz (* around 1450; † end of 1518) was, among other things, mayor of Worms in the Middle Ages .

biography

Noltz, who came from a wealthy family of craftsmen, studied in Heidelberg in 1471 and, like many other people in Worms, in Cologne in 1472 , where he obtained the degree of master's degree. From 1489 Noltz was a permanent member of the Worms Council and at the same time the builder of the Liebfrauenkirche . Furthermore, Noltz worked as a mayor .

politics

From 1493 onwards, Noltz was ordered several times by the Worms Council to make extraordinary visits to neighboring cities in order to represent his hometown and, above all, to mediate diplomatically between the cities.

Furthermore, Noltz was multiple mayor of the city of Worms between 1495 and 1517. During his tenure in office, he regularly published so-called "diaries". At the time, official reports were named as such, which, apart from the fact that they were addressed to the public, often contained personal marginal notes and assessments. The diaries also contained comments on seasonal events, cultural events and disputes between the Worms council and the population, the incumbent bishop and the clergy .

His son Eucharius was a canon at the Worms Liebfrauenstift around 1521 .

Commemoration

In Worms, Noltzstrasse in the city center is dedicated to him.
