career

Fürth, until 1960

Emerging from the youth department of his home club TSV Baiersdorf, then gained his first experience in the senior sector in the A-Class Middle Franconia, Gettinger led his athletic path in 1955 to SpVgg Fürth in the Soccer-Oberliga-Süd. Under coach Hans Schmidt he made his debut in the highest league in southern Germany in 1956/57. In the away game on August 26, 1956 against VfB Stuttgart, he came in attack on the side of the teammates Max Appis , Klaus Kuhnert and Karl Schmidt to his league debut. In total, he completed 18 league games in his first round in contract football and scored six goals in sixth place by the "Kleblatt-Elf". The new attacker Klaus Kuhnert, who came to the Ronhof from TV 48 Erlangen, scored 20 goals in 21 games in this round. Two rounds followed under coach Jenő Csaknády , before Gettinger was recruited by Franconian local rivals 1. FC Nürnberg after the 1959/60 season - with coach Horst Schade . With the last round game on April 30, 1960 at Südmeister Karlsruher SC, Fürth lost the game with 4: 6 goals, he said goodbye to the Ronhof. After a total of 69 league games with 16 goals for the game association, he preferred a change to the "club".

This sparked a big argument between the arch-rivals. After the waves had settled, "Clubberer" and "Kleeblättler" agreed that until July 1966, no player from the other club could be signed without the express consent of the club that was making the transfer. Gettinger was banned for a year and was therefore only able to participate in the league game again for the 1961/62 season at the "Club" - which had won the German championship in 1961 .

Nuremberg, until 1964

In the team of coach Herbert Widmayer "Bobby" Gettinger came in 1961/62 on 18 appearances in the Oberliga Süd and scored six goals to win the championship in southern Germany. He made his debut in the "Club" -Elf on the first round match day, August 6, 1961, in the 1-0 away win at SSV Reutlingen. In the final round of the German championship he was active in the group games against Borussia Neunkirchen and Schalke 04 and was also in the final formation for the final on May 12, 1962 in the Berlin Olympic Stadium against West Champion 1. FC Cologne. In the clear 4-0 success of the billy goats, the “Club” storm with Gustav Flachenecker , Max Morlock , Heinz Strehl , Gettinger and Richard Albrecht had no chance against the class of the Cologne defensive led by Leo Wilden and Karl-Heinz Schnellinger . In the European Champions Cup, he was able to gain international experience in the four games against Drumcondra Dublin and Fenerbahce Istanbul. When the 1962 DFB Cup was played at the beginning of the 1962/63 round , Gettinger played in the games against Saar 05 Saarbrücken and VfV Hildesheim. He formed the Nuremberg runner row with Ferdinand Wenauer and Stefan Reisch . In the semifinals against Eintracht Frankfurt and in the victorious final against Fortuna Düsseldorf, he was not in action.

In the last year of the first-class league era, 1962/63, Gettinger reached the runner-up with Nuremberg and again moved into the finals with his teammates. In the group games he came against the rivals Hertha BSC, 1. FC Kaiserslautern and 1. FC Cologne, the Cologne moved into the final, on four missions. On October 18, 1962, he had been active in the 0-0 draw against AS Saint-Étienne in the European Cup Winners' Cup. Gustav Flachenecker had moved from attacking the right wing runner position and Gettinger came on 15 league appearances with one goal.

The first Bundesliga season in 1963/64 began, however, the "Club" with the standard runner series Gettinger, Wenauer, Reisch. The start of the round brought a 1-1 draw at Hertha BSC on August 24, 1963. By October 19, “Bobby” Gettinger had played eight games and Nürnberg was in 9th place in the table with 8: 8 points. After the ninth game day, October 26, 1963, the "Club" lost the home game against 1. FC Kaiserslautern without Gettinger with 0: 5 goals, coach Herbert Widmayer was dismissed on October 30, 1963 as the first coach in the new Bundesliga and replaced by Jenö Csaknady. On December 7, 1963 - it was his eleventh league game - Gettinger suffered a complicated broken leg in the 55th minute of the 2-0 away defeat at Eintracht Braunschweig and therefore had to end his career prematurely in the summer of 1964.

He later worked as an amateur coach at his home club TSV Baiersdorf and SpVgg Büchenbach.
