politics

Lexer was regional chairman of the JVP between 1980 and 1984 and regional party chairman of the ÖVP Carinthia between 1999 and 2000. He also held the function of a chamber council of the Carinthian Chamber of Commerce and was a board member of the Carinthian regional health insurance fund .

After the ÖVP-Carinthia had initiated a party expulsion procedure against Lexer, the dispute was settled in December 2000 and Lexer was promoted to the ÖVP sports spokesman in parliament. Lexer stood in the National Council election in 2002 as the top candidate of the ÖVP Klagenfurt, but failed when it came back to the National Council.

A renewed candidacy for the Carinthian state parliament in the state elections in 2009 failed due to the resistance of the ÖVP state party leader Josef Martinz . Lexer had previously been nominated as the top candidate of the ÖVP Klagenfurt for the state election.
