Reinhold Otto (teacher)

Reinhold Otto (born October 16, 1863 in Halberstadt , † March 17, 1930 in Berlin ) was a German educator and liberal education politician.

Live and act

After the seminar training school, Otto attended the preparatory institute and then completed the teachers' seminar . He was first a teacher in Brandenburg and from 1889 in Charlottenburg . In 1894 he became a board member of the Charlottenburg teachers' association. He later became its chairman until 1906. In 1896 he also became a board member of the Brandenburg Provincial Teachers' Association. In 1907 Otto was elected chairman of the association with more than 10,000 members. Otto was also the editor of the “Preußische Schulzeitung” newspaper published by the association. He was later appointed honorary chairman of the teachers' association of the province of Brandenburg.

In 1893 Otto was elected city councilor for Charlottenburg. In the following years he was temporarily head of the city council. From his pedagogical practice he gave important impulses for the municipal school deputation. During the German Empire from 1913 to 1918 Otto was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives for the Free People's Party as a representative of the constituency of Potsdam 10 district (Charlottenburg district). From 1919 to 1921 he was a member of the constitutional state assembly of Prussia for the German Democratic Party (DDP) . From 1921 until his death he was a member of the Prussian state parliament . In parliament he represented constituency 3 (Potsdam II).

In 1921 Otto was also a city school councilor and in 1926 he became deputy mayor of Charlottenburg. Among other things, the Reinhold-Otto-Grundschule in the Leistikowstraße in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf is named after him.
