Reinhold's Bērziņš

Reinholds Bērziņš ( Russian Рейнгольд Иосифович Берзин , Reingold Iosifovich Bersin , July 4 jul. / 16th July  1888 greg. , Community KONI (now Naukšēnu novads ), Governorate of Livonia , Russian Empire - 19th March 1938 , Moscow ) was a Latvian Revolutionary and military.

Life

Reinholds Bērziņš joined the Russian Social Democratic Party in 1905 . He became a soldier in World War I and attended a Praporschtschik school in Pleskau in 1916 . He joined the Red Latvian Riflemen . After the October Revolution he held high command posts within the Bolshevik troops and the later Red Army . Among other things, he was commander of the 3rd Army in 1918 and inspector of the Soviet Latvian Army in 1919 . In the Russian civil war , Bērziņš was deployed in Siberia (against the Czechoslovak legions ), in Turkestan and in Poland. In 1924 he left the Red Army. From 1927 to 1937 he held various high posts in the military industry of the Russian Soviet Republic and lived in Moscow.

During the Stalin Purges he was arrested in 1937 as part of the Latvian operation of the NKVD and shot on March 19, 1938 near Kommunarka . Rehabilitation took place in 1955.
