Reino Laine

Reino Kalevi "Reiska" Laine (born July 11, 1946 in Helsinki ) is a Finnish jazz drummer and politician .

Laine began his professional career at the age of 19. He lived in the USA for a year , where he a. a. worked with Dexter Gordon , Clifford Jordan and Charlie Mariano . At the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1968 he appeared with Pekka Pöyry , the following year with Eero Koivistoinen . With his band he won first prize in the jazz band competition, which resulted in an appearance at the Newport Festival . He performed regularly with Ted Curson at the annual Pori Jazz Festival .

In the mid-1980s he was a member of Juhani Aaltonen's The Finnish Middle Aged All Stars . He founded the Reiska Laine Band with Eero Koivistoinen, Jukka Perko , Seppo Kantonen and Heikki Virtanen for a series of concerts on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Finnish Musicians Association .

Laine was also a member of the board of the Finnish Jazz Federation and the Finnish Jazz Archives, the Pop Musicians Union and the National Council of Music. Laine also served as a member of the Left Alliance in the Finnish Parliament .
