Jukka Perko (born February 18, 1968 ) is a Finnish jazz saxophonist.

Live and act

Perko first became known in Finland through his participation in the Pori Jazz Festival in 1986. His international career began when Dizzy Gillespie brought him to his big band the following year, with whom he toured the USA and Europe over the next two years. During this time he also studied at the Sibelius Academy . There he met the vibraphonist Severi Pyysalo , with whom he has worked regularly since.

From 1989 to 1994 Perko was a member of the UMO Jazz Orchestra , after which he concentrated on his work as a soloist. He led various formations (including the Trio Perko-Pyysalo-Viinikainen ) and worked as a sideman a. a. with McCoy Tyner , Red Rodney and Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen . He also works as a classical music interpreter with orchestras such as the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra and the Avanti Chamber Orchestra . Since 1990 he has been teaching at the Sibelius Academy.
