Alexander Falk

Alexander Falk (born August 13, 1967 in Vienna ) is an Austrian entrepreneur. He is co-founder and CEO of Altova GmbH and was involved in the development of the Altova XMLSpy XML editor . He was a member of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) XML Schema Working Group , which defined the XML Schema 1.0 specification, and the Object Management Group (OMG).

Life

Falk is the son of the chemist Heinz Falk . He attended the European High School Auhof in Linz , where he graduated in 1985. He completed his studies at the Johannes Kepler University in Linz, Austria in 1992 with the title of graduate engineer.

Falk began his professional career at Apple , where he worked on ResEdit 2.0 and 2.1 as a software developer in the Development Systems group .

In 1992, Falk founded Altova GmbH (previously: Icon EDV Informations-Systeme GmbH) in Vienna and expanded with Altova, Inc. into the USA. From the beginning, Altova has been a leader in XML technologies with its XML editor XMLSpy . Since then, the company has expanded its product line and now offers a complete package of database management, data integration, UML and data management tools. Altova has 3 million customers worldwide, including 91% of all Fortune 500 companies.

Falk was originally directly involved in software development at Altova - including when he was involved in the development of XMLSpy from 1999 to 2002. From 2000 to 2003 he was actively involved in the creation of the XML Schema 1.0 specification by the W3C and continues to be involved in the development of various standards.

As a sailor, Falk is a member of the Marblehead Sail & Power Squadron, an association that has set itself the goal of making boating safer. Falk was Commander from 2007 to 2008 and is a certified boat examiner by the American Coast Guard.

Falk has been the executive secretary of Marblehead Little Theater, a New England drama group, since 2005 .

On his blog XML Aficionado, Falk reports on social media , technical discoveries and XML-specific expertise. He wrote restaurant reviews on his gourmet travel blog Pheasant Glass.

Falk lived in Austria until 2001 and then settled in the USA. He is married to Nora Falk, a textile artist, and has two children.
