history

Headquarters of the Reisebank, Frankfurt am Main

The Reisebank AG was created in 1996 by hiving off the currency business from the former Deutsche Verkehrs-Kredit-Bank (DVB). The DVB exchange offices, which were mainly located at larger train stations , were converted into bank branches. In the course of the restructuring of the Deutsche Verkehrs-Kredit-Bank (DVB) and its subsidiaries, the Reisebank was sold to DZ Bank on January 1, 2004 and thus integrated into the cooperative financial group with over 1200 cooperative banks at the time .

As of December 31, 2014, the bank had 93 branches and 300 of its own ATMs in airports, train stations, large bus stations, at border crossings and in downtown locations.

Business areas

In addition to its own business, the Reisebank also supplies types, precious metals and travelers checks for commercial banks, especially for cooperative banks. The international cash transfer, which she carries out as an agent of Western Union , and the operation of ATMs are other important areas of business . In 2007, consideration was given to offering ATM maintenance to others. The bank has been operating toll stations for Toll Collect since 2005 . Thus, the Reisebank is not a classic bank with credit and deposit business , but a special service provider among the banks. Since February 2012, the Reisebank has also been offering its own rechargeable Mastercard , which can be purchased and used directly at any branch office upon presentation of an identity card or passport. Since January 2014 it has been possible to purchase precious metals, travel money and travelers checks in the online shop at the Reisebank. Since the beginning of 2016, it has only been possible to purchase American Express travelers' checks; the sale of these has been discontinued.

The travel bank is a partner of the Western Union .
