history

Share of 100 RM in Deutsche Verkehrs-Kredit-Bank AG from October 1925

The institute was first mentioned in a contract on May 18, 1923 as Deutsche Verkehrs-Kredit-Bank AG (DVKB) and was officially founded exactly one month later by several banks and industrial companies, initially to postpone freight for the Deutsche Reichsbahn . A year later, the Deutsche Reichsbahn acquired 51% of the shares and made DVKB their house bank. In 1925 it increased its share to 75%; the remaining 25% remained with a bank consortium . After that, the bank began setting up exchange offices at train stations and border crossing points. In 1935, the Reichsbahn designated it as a banking department of the Deutsche Reichsbahn and not as an external company .

After the Second World War , the special tasks of the DVKB, in particular with regard to freight deferral, were fixed by law. In 1949, following the merger of the two main offices in Frankfurt am Main and Hamburg, the headquarters were established in Frankfurt. There was also a branch in Berlin and 13 branches.

In 1988 the bank was listed on the stock exchange, with the Deutsche Bundesbahn holding 75.1% of the shares. In 1991 the name was changed to Deutsche Verkehrs-Bank AG , 1997 to Deutsche VerkehrsBank AG and 2002 to DVB Bank AG . Since October 1, 2008 it has been trading as DVB Bank SE .

In 1996 the brand business was spun off, and the Reisebank was created , today also a subsidiary of DZ Bank.

In order to strengthen the ship finance branch, Nedship Bank NV was taken over by Rabobank in 2000 , which was renamed DVB Bank NV in 2004 and merged with DVB Bank in 2008. In 2002 DZ Bank , which initially acquired 50.1% of the shares in 1995, took over DVB's stake in KRAVAG , so that its stake increased to 78.21%. At the end of 2003, this was expanded to 92.27% by taking over the Sparda share and the remaining 0.75% stake in Deutsche Bahn AG. Through a capital increase in 2008, DZ Bank's stake finally reached 95.44%.

In the course of a squeeze-out under stock corporation law , the shares of all minority shareholders in DVB were transferred to DZ Bank in August 2017. Trading in shares of DVB Bank SE on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange was then discontinued.
