Reitzendorfer windmill

The Reitzendorfer Windmühle is a former windmill in Reitzendorf , a district of the town of Schönfeld-Weißig , which is part of the Saxon capital of Dresden . The mill, built in 1861, is protected as a cultural monument. Because of its location, it is also known as the windmill near Zaschendorf .

history

The master miller Karl Gierth had the windmill built in 1861, initially as a post mill , southeast of the village of Reitzendorf on the Zaschendorfer Höhe. It served as a flour mill and relieved the local farmers, who until then had been dependent on water mills located further away , such as the Meixmühle or the Keppmühle . The mill was later converted into a Dutch windmill . During a storm on October 31, 1919, the blades of the windmill were destroyed, and the wave head also fell victim to the weather in the following years. In order to keep operations going, a diesel engine was installed by the then Müller Zander. The mill was in operation until 1927. After that, the windmill was left to decay.

In 1987 the restoration and conversion of the mill began. The construction work was completed in 1990 and the mill has been used as a residential building ever since. It was also the seat of a company that was engaged in the construction of historic mills. The interior of the mill was heated from 1990 onwards by the energy gained from the blades. A storm in 1997 destroyed the windmill's blades again, after which they were no longer reconstructed. The mill has been empty since 2010. It is considered one of the landmarks of the Schönfeld highlands .

execution

The Reitzendorfer windmill is an approximately 14 meter high, conical Dutch tower windmill with a diameter of eight meters at the base and 6.30 meters at the hood. The four wings were designed as door wings and each measured eight meters in length.
