Relja Bašić

Relja Bašić (born February 14, 1930 in Zagreb , Kingdom of Yugoslavia ; † April 7, 2017 in Zagreb, Croatia ) was a Yugoslav-Croatian actor and politician in the Croatian parliament.

Life

Bašić graduated from the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts in his hometown in 1955 with a diploma. The year before he made his cinema debut in concert . During the next decades he became one of the most distinguished character actors in Yugoslavia and later in Croatia, where he was also used several times in international productions. He often played aristocratic criminals, especially in films about World War II ; His most famous role, however, was Mr. Fulir in the 1970 musical Tko pjeva zlo ne misli .

He was also a member of the Croatian National Theater from 1955 to 1967 and played in 4213 performances; in addition, he was also active as artistic director.

In the 1990s Bašić supported the Social Liberal Party of Croatia and from 1993 also represented it in the upper house of parliament. He was named a UNESCO “Artist for Peace”.
