action
The film is set in Mexico in the 19th century. The peasants rebel against the government. A troop of farmers is led by Pérez. He and his men overpower a train of government soldiers and take Maria, the president's daughter, prisoner. Pérez is supposed to lead the kidnapped woman to his general. Together with the warriors Chamaco and Chico, Pérez and Maria go on a long ride through the wilderness of Mexico. Maria is to be exchanged for political prisoners, but the warrior Chamaco would prefer a high ransom for the girl. First he tries to convince Chico of his plan and persuades him to shoot leader Pérez. However, Chico wants to secure a ransom for himself and flees with Maria. However, Chamaco can catch him and shoots him. In her distress, Maria then kills Chamaco. Pérez finally manages to get Maria to the headquarters of his general. When they get there, however, they find that the camp has been completely destroyed and the general was killed. The peasant revolution is lost and Pérez gives Maria back her freedom.
Reviews
"Visually a revolutionary epic of great charm, but disappointingly flat in the intellectual foundation of its appeal to humanity."
Remarks
Severino Alvárez sings the film song Podereso señor .
